Paying in US dollars from New Zealand
All our prices are in US dollars. Here’s what that means for a New Zealand card, what you’ll see on your statement, and what to do if a payment doesn’t go through.
Why the prices are in US$
Our checkout runs in one currency for everyone, and that currency is the US dollar. We show “US$” in front of every amount on purpose: in New Zealand a bare “$” means NZD, and we don’t want anyone reading US$13.99 as 13.99 New Zealand dollars. The price you see in the basket is the exact amount charged, with nothing added at checkout.
What your bank does
When a New Zealand card pays in US$, your bank converts the amount to NZD using its own exchange rate on the day the payment settles. As a rough guide, at around NZ$1.70 per US dollar:
| Package | Charged | Roughly in NZD |
|---|---|---|
| 100 TikTok likes | US$1.99 | about NZ$3.40 |
| 1,000 Instagram likes | US$7.99 | about NZ$14 |
| 1,000 Instagram followers | US$13.99 | about NZ$24 |
| 10,000 Instagram followers | US$59.99 | about NZ$102 |
These are illustrations, not quotes. Exchange rates move every day, and the number on your statement is the real one.
Overseas transaction fees
Many New Zealand cards add a small fee, often a couple of per cent, when you pay in a foreign currency or with an overseas merchant. That fee is set by your bank and shown separately or folded into the converted amount. Some travel cards and multi-currency accounts don’t charge it. If it matters to you, check your bank’s fee page before paying.
Ways to pay
- Visa and Mastercard, credit or debit.
- Apple Pay and Google Pay, which use the card in your wallet.
Not available: POLi, Afterpay, Laybuy and other buy-now-pay-later services, bank transfers, and cash. Payment happens on a secure hosted checkout page; we never see or store your card number.
If your card is declined
- Check online and overseas spending is on. Many debit cards ship with overseas or online purchases switched off. You can usually turn them on in your banking app.
- Look for a verification prompt. Your bank may send a code or an in-app approval; payments fail if it times out.
- Try Apple Pay or Google Pay. They sometimes go through where a typed card number doesn’t.
- Still stuck? Email us. Your basket is saved on your device, so you won’t lose it.
Refunds in NZD
If we refund part of an order, it goes back to the same card in US$, and your bank converts it again. Because rates move, the NZD amount may differ slightly from what you paid. Details are on refunds.
