Instagram engagement rate calculator
Brands look at engagement before follower count. Enter your followers and average likes and comments, or let the tool fetch them from a public account.
The formula
Engagement rate = (average likes + average comments + saves and shares if you know them) ÷ followers × 100. Use the average over your last ten or so posts rather than one post, so a single great or terrible day doesn’t skew it.
Reading the result
- Under 1%: low. Common on big accounts or ones with many inactive followers.
- 1 to 3%: normal for most.
- 3 to 6%: good, especially past 10,000 followers.
- Over 6%: very high; typical of small accounts with a close community.
Why it matters
A business that wants to pay you for a post cares about how many people react, not how many follow. It’s also the quickest way to tell an inflated account, as explained in how to spot fake followers. If you’re thinking about buying followers, check your rate first: a big package can drag it down.
Improving it
Reply to every comment, ask a real question in captions, post Reels that are worth sending, and use Story polls. More in grow on Instagram without buying.
